Under the Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement the Ministerial Forum convenes a LEB Biennial Conference, to provide the opportunity for members of the Lake Eyre Basin community, scientists, industry representatives, government officials and other parties with an interest in the sustainable management of the Basin to exchange information and views relevant to the implementation of the Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement. The location of the LEB Conference changes each year in order to maximise accessability to the event by the many and varied communities across the vast area of the Basin.

In the intervening years, the Ministerial Forum supports another community gathering known as the Aboriginal Forum, held to enhance appropriate representation of Indigenous interests in the development and implementation of policies and strategies for the Basin.

Since the signing of the LEB Intergovernmental Agreement in 2000, LEB Conferences have been convened in various locations within the Basin or nearby in regional areas, and four Aboriginal Forums have been held, also in different locations around the Basin.
